Careers
Come teach the way you always wanted to.
No script, no scope-and-sequence to defend, nobody standing over you. What we ask instead is harder: know one child at a time well enough to teach them the way they actually learn.

Who we look for
Mentally tough, resilient, hardworking, selfless.
This work asks a lot. A student can have a hard morning that has nothing to do with you and everything to do with you anyway, and the people who last here are the ones who stay steady through it and come back the next day the same person.
Underneath that we look for three qualities:
One
Humble
Others-centered. Shares the credit, and understands that something bigger and more important than any one of us is going on in this building.
Two
Hungry
Doesn’t wait to be asked. Takes the initiative, self-motivated, passionate, with a work ethic that nobody has to manage.
Three
Smart
Emotionally intelligent and sensitive. Picks up on what somebody else needs, has good judgment and intuition around people, and builds a room where others feel safe, valued and motivated.
What the job is like
Small enough to know every kid’s name.
Groups run about four students to a teacher, so you are not managing a room. You are working with children you know well, whose parents you know, whose hard days you can see coming. Behavior gets treated as a form of communication rather than a discipline problem, which is the part most people have to unlearn from somewhere else.
You pick the curriculum for the student in front of you and use it the way you see fit — games, Legos, Minecraft, whatever gets there. The administration’s job is to get you what you need, not to tell you how to run your classroom.
Most of our teachers have been here for years. Several came to Edison after watching the same thing happen to a child of their own.

Why we’re here
One purpose, three values, and we mean them.
We exist to transform the educational experience for our community.
Every child deserves to be understood. That is the whole idea, and it only works if the adults in the building believe it on the hard days too. So we talk about these three values openly and often, and we will ask you about them more than once.
Steadfast Partnerships
Share in both the work and the wins. Believe the best. Honest communication.
Relentlessly Adaptive
Continually learn and adjust. Thinking beyond traditional solutions.
Meet Individuals Where They Are
Seek first to understand, individualized support, lead with compassion.

How hiring works
Five steps.
1
Send a resume and an application
Use the employment application on the school’s careers page. We take resumes all year, including when every position is filled.
2
A phone interview
A first conversation about the work and about you. We will ask for references, and we call them.
3
A day in the classroom
You spend a day in the building on an ordinary day. It will tell you more about whether you want this job than any interview can.
4
Meet the team
A face-to-face interview with the people you would be working beside. They have a say in who joins them.
5
One-on-one with the Head of School
The history of the school, what we mean by an ideal team player, and a real deep dive into the purpose and the values so you know exactly what makes this place different. Bring your questions.
If we make an offer, full background checks are required.
Open positions
Come see the openings.
Current positions and the employment application live on the school’s careers page. If none of them fit but this sounded like you, send a resume anyway — we keep them, and we read them.
